Sam Nelson’s roots in the grooming industry began in 2006, when he worked in sales for a grooming supply distributor. After working for two major distribution companies, Sam took a leap of faith in 2015, and with just three product lines, he opened Love Groomers. Over the last three years, Sam has spent countless hours attending product training workshops, pet expos, AKC dog shows and grooming trade shows all over the country, broadening his knowledge and understanding of grooming products and equipment. Making customer service and strong relationships with his customers and peers a top priority, he has become a staple in the grooming industry. His hard work and dedication to those customers paid off, earning Love Groomers two back to back Barkleigh Honors Awards for Vendor of the Year in 2017 and 2018.
Jessica Adorno is the owner/founder of Pupparazzi Pets Mobile Pet Grooming and has been involved in the grooming industry for 15 years. She was formally trained at American Academy of Dog Grooming located in NYC, is CPR certified and has extensive knowledge in skin and coat conditions. Jessica worked in a grooming salon for four years where she gathered knowledge of several breeds and the complexities that groomers, pet owners, and dogs face. In 2007, Pupparazzi Pets was born as one of the first mobile pet grooming businesses in Bronx, NY, which began in a horse trailer and is now three elite mobile vans. Throughout the years, she has continued her education and is dedicated to her craft.
Chris Anthony, weary from her travails in retail management and office work, found her calling when she discovered pet grooming. Her near fifteen year journey in this career has led her through many opportunities, experiences & life lessons, including grooming and managing in both small and corporate salons, and starting her own successful house call grooming business in New Jersey. Supplementing those life lessons by educating herself on the varying aspects of her career, she always sought out innovations in pet care, education, grooming techniques, tools and products. Now her passion for grooming & education has added more in depth knowledge on scissors, scissoring techniques and ergonomics to help preserve her own health and longevity in her chosen profession.
Khris Berry has been actively involved in the pet industry for 33 years. She currently co-owns and operates See Spot Grooming & Daycare with multiple Pet Grooming, Training, and Daycare facilities in Florida and Kentucky. She is the World Pet Association Director of Grooming, and is an advocate for education, safety, business and workplace issues for groomers worldwide. Nationally recognized as a Barkleigh Honors winner in 2017, multiple Barkleigh Honors nominations including Contribution to the Industry, Journalist, Book of the Year, and Speaker of the Year, Pet Age Magazine 2018 Vanguard Award Winner, and 2019 Pet Age Magazine Women of Influence Award Winner, Khris has established a platform of education and awareness in animal handling and safety in the pet industry and is an active advocate for fair and effective pet groomer legislation.
Jennifer Bishop-Jenkins, ICMG, is the Owner/Master Groomer at Love Fur Dogs in Glencoe, Illinois. Named “Best Groomer in Chicagoland” by the Chicago Tribune, Jennifer has been grooming, breeding, and showing several breeds of dogs and cats for four decades. Jennifer was featured on Season Three of the Hulu Television Series Small Business Revolution as a Grooming Expert. She has authored grooming articles, writes an award-winning blog, and is publishing A Groomers Guide to the Fifteen Coat Types as a book in 2021 based on her ground-breaking seminar. Jennifer founded the Illinois Professional Pet Groomers Association and works on the leadership team for the National Alliance of Grooming Associations (NAGA). Known for her academically rich presentations, Jennifer retired from a long teaching career to take up dogs full time. Jennifer and her husband Bill are also nationally prominent victim advocates who breed and show Miniature Poodles and Australian Shepherds.
Nadia Bongelli has been grooming pets since 2009 and competing since 2012. Her accolades include Barkleigh Honors Up and Coming Groomer of the Year in 2016, Best All Around International Groomer at Intergroom 2017, five Rising Star Gold Medals, Rising Star of the Year award at Intergroom 2016, two Canadian BIS awards and had numerous Open Level placements in Canada and several in the United States. Nadia’s proudest moment was being awarded Canadian Groomer of the Year at the very first Canadian Grooming Industry Awards. She is a Nationally Certified Master Groomer with the National Dog Groomers Assoc. of America, Inc. and a certifier with the Intellectual Groomers Association. Her ultimate goal is to represent her country on Groom Team Canada with her peers.
Dana got her start as a lead veterinary technician at the North Peninsula Humane Society from 1998. While working there she witnessed firsthand the importance of basic care for our pets. She worked in many areas of the veterinary world before becoming a groomer in 2005 and founded A Purrfect Groomer. After 10 years in the brick and mortar salon she decided to go mobile and has been at it ever since. As a feline grooming expert, Dana was a founding member of the Intellectual Groomers Association and she wrote the guidelines that were used in feline certification. Now a Global Educator with Andis, Dana brings her vast knowledge of feline grooming to the everyday groomer.
As the owner and managing partner of Sunstone Bookkeeping, LLC, Jeri Ann Cook combines her financial management and organizational skills with her love of animals to provide cloud-based bookkeeping services to pet professionals around the country from her office in Stratford, Connecticut. Jeri Ann received her M.B.A. from A.B. Freeman School of Business, is a certified advisor of both QuickBooks Online and Xero, and is a member of the American Institute of Professional Bookkeepers and the Institute of Certified Bookkeepers USA.
Brian is a National Certified Master Groomer with the NDGAA, winning the 2019 Barkleigh Honors Up & Coming Groomer of the Year Award. He began professionally grooming in 2015 and started competitively grooming at the end of 2018. Brian grew up competing in dog shows as a junior handler and working for various professional handlers, gaining a vast knowledge of different breeds and trims. He found success in the competition ring, earning multiple first place wins and group placements. He is eager to bring a fresh new prospective to the grooming industry and excited to work towards his future goal of making GroomTeam USA.
Lis De Souza is a National Master Certified groomer and owner of Serenity Pet Spa in Madison, WI. She has 15 years of experience as a professional groomer and more than 20 years showing dogs. She has won multiple awards across the United States and Internationally. She made GroomTeam USA in 2018 and continues to strive for her goal to become a member of the USA travel team. She runs two full service, kennel free grooming salons with an apprentice programs to help groomers become master certified.
eff Dickerson is the CEO of DaySmart Software, the makers of 123Pet, a leading pet business management software. Jeff has 25+ years of experience building software companies and developing technology that empowers and drives real business results for customers. He previously held the role of CEO at Nutonian, The Neat Company, Sonian, Metatomix and eCredit. Jeff earned his bachelor’s degree in finance and economics from North Adams State College.
An industry veteran, Teri has owned and operated successful salons and mobiles in Florida and California. A winning grooming contest competitor, Teri was a member of three GroomTeam USA Gold Medal teams. A multiple Barkleigh Honors and Cardinal Crystal Award winner, Teri was a regular columnist for Groomer to Groomer Magazine as well as a popular speaker and judge at seminars and trade shows across the United States, Canada, Europe, South America, Korea, Australia and New Zealand.
Mindy Dinwiddie owns Classy Canine in Litchfield, Michigan. She began grooming in 2007, having her own shop by 2008. She started in a back bedroom of her house, growing her business to a storefront. Her experiences include daycare, boarding and training. All while consistently furthering her education by attending expos, seminars and private lessons from top stylists in the industry, Mindy has been competing for three years. With a passion for learning and teaching, she began speaking in 2017 after having one of her grooms published in Doodle Modern Styles Special Edition. Mindy is also a Brand Ambassador for Evolution Shears.
Kathryn Dixon, a Nationally Certified Master groomer, is a top 20 ranked competitor and pet grooming educator. She has been involved in the industry since her first job as a bather at Petsmart in 2006. She has worked in corporate salons, private salons, mobile salons, and owned a mobile fleet based in Rhode Island from 2015 to 2019. She served as a member of the Rhode Island Professional Pet Groomers Association from 2015 to 2017 as secretary and treasurer. In this capacity, she helped write the Pet Grooming Safety Bill which the state will eventually pass. She is based in Maryland working part-time as a pet/show groomer and shows various breeds in the terrier, sporting, non-sporting, and toy rings.
Sarah Drouin, NCMG, has been in the grooming industry since 2010, where she started as a bather in a corporation, and through years of hard work, dedication and continued education, has moved her way up the ranks to get to the top of her game. Not only is she an Award-winning groomer, she also makes videos to help other groomers advance their skills. Sarah has won multiple first, second and third place awards in grooming competitions and was nominated for Barkleigh Honors Up & Coming Groomer in 2018. Her strengths are creating Sustainable Pet Styles that separate her to be the best in her community.
Dr. Cliff Faver, a 1987 graduate of CSU, is the founder/owner of Animal Health Services in Cave Creek, Arizona. He is the US distributor for Iv San Bernard products. He uses the two businesses as a means of merging the grooming and veterinary professions to pursue his life’s passion of healing and helping pets. Dr. Faver is an international speaker and teaches the ISB Pet Aesthetician Certification program. He is a member of AVMA, AAHA, AZVMA, a sponsor for the CPPGA, a Board member for the Burbank Kennel Club, and previously served on the Novartis Lead Committee, Hill’s International Global Veterinary Board, and is still active in a Veterinary Management Group.
Anne has been a professional pet stylist for over 20 years, joining the team at The Village Groomer & Pet Supply in Walpole, Mass in 1995. Anne was the recipient of the Cardinal Crystal Award for Journalist of The Year for her work on the instructional article in Grooming Business Magazine, “The Grooming Table.” She was a member of GroomTeam USA in 2014, 2015 and 2016, and winner of “Taxi Award” at the NEPGP for the best expression and character on a mixed breed. Anne is excited to share her knowledge she has gathered over the years as she transitions into being an educator in the industry that she loves.
Anny Godwin has been in the pet industry since 2005 when she started pet sitting horses and dogs. In 2012, she began working for a private foster kennel where she learned her love of training. In 2014 she did a shadow program with a well-known trainer and in 2015 she started her own business, NorCal Adventure Dogs. In 2018, she teamed with A Purrfect Groomer to create a program that involves including grooming as a training option. In 2019, Anny moved her family and her business from California to Tennessee where she is currently re-building her training business.
Jill Hailey has created a virtual empire since opening her first mobile pet salon in 2014. Today her mobile business runs eight units in California. She owns Foxy Roxy’s Supply Co. which began in 2017 and includes Scissor of the Month Club and Groomer Supply Box. Along with her partner Blake Hernandez, she also runs multiple continuing education platforms, including the Foxify weekend retreats and GROOM Source. Jill came into the industry with plenty of experience in business management and graphic design, but oddly, none in grooming! And she believes that has brought a unique perspective with her that has contributed to her success.
Michelle Knowles, owner of All Things Paw, has over 30 years of experience as a private and professional pet care provider. Michelle is a Master Groomer and a Certified Pet Medical Aesthetician, has apprenticed, volunteered, worked, owned and managed in salons, kennels, zoos, and veterinary hospitals across the country. Michelle has also been trained in Tuscany, Italy in therapeutic work, hand stripping and advanced dermatological care. She has an ISB certification in skin and coat care, extensive experience with fear and trauma recovery, elderly pets, and a focus on managing allergic/dermatological disorders. Michelle has been published in Groomer-To-Groomer magazine and is a nationally recognized speaker in her field.
Milena started off in graphic design and direct sales before realizing that she wanted to do more with animals. So, she went into grooming in 2013. She is now the owner of Driving Me Knots (Mobile Grooming), DMK Bowtique (Pet Accessories), and DMK Marketing Solutions (Custom Graphic Designs). She started competing in Extreme Creative Styling & Creative Abstract grooming contests in 2015, and won Up-and-Coming Creative Groomer that same year. Her creative work has also been seen on "The Greatest Showman" with Hugh Jackman and "Orange is the New Black" on Netflix. She was awarded the Barkleigh Honors Creative Groomer of the Year in 2018.
Jameson has a degree in International Business Management & Marketing, and has always had interests in working with animals at a young age. After working for a massive online retail company, managing over 300+ employees amongst 7 different call centers both domestically and internationally, he decided to jump right into the world of grooming with his wife, Milena. Now the proud owner of Driving Me Knots (Mobile Grooming), DMK Bowtique (Pet Accessories), and DMK Marketing Solutions (Custom Graphic Designs), his ability to multi-task and market the companies since 2013 is only the beginning for the DMK branding.
Jennifer Started competing in 2005. Since then she has won over 70 grooming competition awards, multiple Best in Show and Best All Around Groomer awards. Jennifer is a member of GroomTeam USA hall of fame, she was honored to become GroomTeam USA’s traveling team member to Belgium in 2011. In 2015, Jennifer also won International Groomer of the year award in Master Groom England. Jennifer is an international grooming seminar speaker, and has taught in many countries, including England, Sweden, Brazil, China, and Korea. Jennifer is an All Around EGA and USA grooming competition Judge, and a grooming certifier for Barkleigh Certification South Korea and IGU (International Groomers Union).
Melissa Mitchner is the CEO and founder of The Bark Shoppe, located in Harlem, NY. Melissa has over a decade in business management and expansion. Prior to entering the pet care industry, she worked for one of the largest retail companies in the nation and was responsible for hiring over 6,000 + people. She has 7 years’ experience in owning and managing a profitable salon. Since opening in 2012 she has expanded her services from grooming, to boarding, daycare and self-service facility and has also created private label products for her brand. She is passionate about helping entrepreneurs grow and establish their brands, and is currently a licensed grooming instructor by NY State.
Jessica Moore CMG, IGMS is the owner of Show Stoppers Pet Styling in Waukegan, Illinois. Jessica has been a pet stylist for 18 years and began competing in 2006. After accelerating in the competition ring quickly she moved from entry level to open in a matter of a few shows. In 2007-10 she ended the years in the top 20. Jessica has walked away with multitude of 1st, 2nd and 3rd place wins, including many group placements in every level as well as several Best Groomed Dog Awards and Best in Show.
Joshua is a Master Certified Groomer with The NDGAA and a Certified Member with the ISCC. He is a trend setting artist and President of The Dog Beautician Company and Founder of the Puerto Rican National Grooming Team, Grooming Team of Puerto Rico (GTPR), and a brand Ambassador for Hydra Cosmetics, Loyalty Pet Products and Liberty Star Equipment, as well as a 2017 and 2018 Barkleigh Honors award winner and nominee. Mackensie Murphy is a second-generation pet stylist, following in her mother's footsteps and becoming the very first second generation GroomTeam USA. In 2005, Mackensie started her own grooming career at the young age of 18. Mackensie began her competition career in early 2011 and has been awarded multiple Best in Show awards, Best All Around Groomer awards and is a five-time winner of the prestigious Liz Paul Memorial Best Scissored Poodle Award. Mackensie consistently stayed among the top three competitors and earned herself a position on GroomTeam USA in 2012 which she has sustained up to this current year.
Ashley is a groomer in Port St Lucie, FL and has been in the grooming industry since the age of 14 as both a bather and a groomer. She graduated from Merryfield School of Pet Grooming, and became a Nationally Certified Master Groomer with the NDGAA only 6 months later. Ashley is the winner of numerous grooming competition awards, including a Best in Show, jumping from lowest division to being ranked in the top 15 in just one year, and was nominated for Barkleigh Honors “Up and Coming Groomer of the Year” award for 2018.
Julie owns Best in Show Pet Salon in Gloucester, MA and has been in the Grooming world since 1994. Since Graduating Essex Agricultural and Technical Institute's Grooming and Kennel Management program, she has worked in many different venues including Schutzhund, Obedience, Agility, Tracking, Breed conformation and of course grooming. Julie has won Multiple Best-Groomed Dog and Best All Around awards over the years, was ranked in the top 10 on GroomTeam USA for multiple years from 2003 on, and qualified to compete in Milan Italy in 2007. Julie has always had a passion for Poodles and is very active in the Conformation ring showing many Toy, Mini and Standard Poodles to their AKC Championships.
Jill Pipino started grooming in 2000. She bought a turnkey operation, turning it into a successful business offering her clients everything from daycare to spa services and personality trims to show styles. She began regularly attending seminars and trade shows at the beginning of her career, and started competing in 2007. She has been a regular in the competition circuit ever since. In an effort to further her understanding of pet styling, she has trained privately with top stylists and breeders. She also works with breeders and handlers at dog shows and is looking forward to showing her field spaniel, Brucie.
As a second-generation groomer, Macie has been immersed in the dog world her whole life. She has been grooming professionally since 2010. Macie started competing in 2014 and quickly rose to the top, becoming one of the youngest competitors in open division. In 2016 she was nominated for the Barkleigh Honors Up and Coming Groomer of the Year Award. She will continue to travel and compete nationally until she achieves her dream of making GroomTeam USA. Macie co-owns the Laundromutt in Kenmore, NY.
Adriane Pope is an award-winning Pet stylist in Breed Profile and Creative Grooming. Her specialty is extreme creative styling and creative abstract design. Adriane is owner/groomer of Adriane's Groom and Go Mobile Grooming in Conway, SC., and also the owner of Rivertown Bed and Biscuit Luxury Kennel since 2004. She has 24 years of grooming experience, and has been mobile for 22 years. She started competing in breed profile in 1997 and started the creative world in 2004.
Madeline has always adored animals and knew from a young age that she would one day work with them. At sixteen, after watching “Groomer Has It”, she started a mobile grooming company, and at seventeen got her first job at a grooming salon. Madeline then decided on a college education and went to Pima Medical Institute where she earned a degree as a Vet Tech. By age twenty-one, she opened her own salon which has been flourishing ever since, with over two hundred five-star reviews. Madeline’s specialty, along with poodles and doodles, are hard to handle dogs. She also grooms and fosters for a local poodle rescue. In 2016, Madeline entered her first competition and placed third, and she has been hooked ever since. Madeline is also a self-taught Creative groomer and has received two people's choice awards.
Laura Jayne is the owner of Hair of the Dog Mobile Pet Spa in New York, New York. She is a competitive groomer, small business owner and known for her online persona.
Philip Schafmayer, NCMG was a Professional All Breed AKC Handler for over 18 years. Philip has been a professional pet stylist since 1997 and became a Certified Master Groomer with NDGAA in 2017. He was awarded Best in Show and Best All Around Groomer at NEPGP 2017 at his very first competition, then again at NEPGP 2018. Philip made the GroomTeam USA Top 10 Pet Stylists for 2017 as well as 2018, and earned the #5 GroomTeam USA spot for 2018, as well as being announced as the 2020 World Travel Team Alternate. In February 2018 Philip retired from Professional Handling and opened Dogs by Design Pet Salon in Danielson, CT, and is getting ready to open his second salon in Cranston, RI.
Jay and his wife, Michelle, own Here Comes the Groom, a highly successful mobile grooming salon in Germantown, Tennessee. Jay has won multiple Best in Show and Best All-Around Groomer awards and helped Groomteam USA win the Gold medal in Calgary, Canada, in 2001. Jay was named American Groomer of the Year in 2001, Groomer of the Year Award at Westminster Dog Show in 2002, and Grooming Judge of the Year in 2004. In 2003 Jay won an International Gold and Bronze medal in Barcelona, Spain, helping groomteam USA win the silver team medal. He and Sue Zecco offer seminars nationally. Jay won a Barkleigh Honors Award at the event that he emceed.
Susan has been grooming dogs and cats for over forty years and has taught grooming for fifteen years. Her first love of dogs began very young while on the television set of Rin Tin Tin and then in her teens on the set of Hogan’s Heroes. Like many groomers, Susan turned a “hobby” into her life work. Her career began with showing and grooming her own dogs, progressed to showing and grooming for others as a Certified Professional Handler and, in 1997, Susan turned in her show leash for a judge’s book. She now judges breeds in five groups and has judged grooming competitions. Susan is presently an AKC Delegate for the Black Russian Terrier Club of America, where she holds the office of Recording Secretary and serves as Chairman of the Judges Education Committee.
Corina stumbled into the dog grooming industry by chance, but has brought fresh eyes and new ideas. She opened The Laundromutt, a self-service dog wash and grooming salon, on the concept that washing your own dog should be easy and fun. She believes that your dog should always be in the most educated hands, and in the cleanest and calmest environment possible. Corina is a college biology instructor and is currently in graduate school for Biotechnology.
Ralph is the Owner/Sharpener of Whitman’s Sharpening, one of the largest sharpeners and grooming tool suppliers in the Mid-West. Whitman’s provides sales and services to over 40 AKC/UKC dog shows and trade shows annually. Ralph noticed there was a need for higher quality, safer, more effective and easier to use products within the pet industry. So, these concepts have been in the forefront of their ideals since conception of the company in 1995. Whitman’s is the developer and manufacturer of the USA quality pet safe clipper blade cleaner/storage solution The Redip and The Diamastripper Tool. They operate out of Farwell, MI where they have a full retail area, as well host clinics and seminars all over the country.
Olga is a Certified Master Groomer and owns two grooming salons, Elite Pet Spa & Boutique in Madison, NJ and Grooming Gallery in Morris Plains, NJ. She has multiple BIS and Best All-Around Groomer wins as well as two prestigious Winners Circle Champion titles. Olga is 2009 and 2010 American Groomer of the Year by Cardinal Pet, and was awarded the Lynne Carver Memorial Award as Best All Around Stylist 2009. Olga was born in Russia where she had a Master Degree in Engineering and finished law school. Olga was a GroomTeam USA member 2008-2012 and won the Silver medal in Belgium, 2011 as a part of the traveling team. Olga co-hosts many pet fundraising events.
Joe’s journey in the pet industry started in 1986. Joe helped advance one of the World’s most prestigious Pet Resorts for nearly 20 years. Joe then began a 10-year focus on grooming product development as Director of Innovation and Product Development. In 2018, Joe joined the team at Paragon, the leading pet professional development and education solutions company. Joe leads the company’s efforts in providing learning solutions for the pet grooming services industry which are used by individuals, pet salon owners, and multi-unit retailers as their core training tools for new groomers and enhancing the skills of existing staff.
